About Me

Kate Collins, Crochet Designer

Hey, I’m Kate. A mid-30s crocheting Mum of 4. I have a husband who is a yarn addict enabler and I could spend hours fondling yarns before I even start hooking. If I can make a living fondling yarn, then I will be thrilled!
I never knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I think after many years searching, I have found it as a crochet designer.

– I have played netball for more than 20 years.
– I was a band geek in high school and I can still play my saxophone.
– We have a Beaglier named Muggsy (Hubby named him after Muggsy Bogues, the shortest player to ever play NBA)
– I hate Jelly.

Self care is not selfish. It is necessary for survival.

Kate Made It

From Corporate to Crochet Designer and Blogger

I have been a stay at home Mum for 8 years. Crochet, creativity and community have become so important in my life. And during the endless Mum days, being able to mentally escape and create something beautiful has been a saviour for me.

Battling postnatal depression and anxiety with 3 of my children took a toll on me mentally. Crochet design, blogging and being creative helped me find a sense of purpose. It took so many loads of washing for me to realise I was lacking purpose in my life outside my kids.

If you want to hear more about my time dealing with Post Natal Depression and Anxiety, read about it here and here.

Crafty people are my favourite people

The online crochet community, in fact the whole crafty community is an amazing place to be. There is so much support, love and friendship and so little judgement or hatred. I have met so many amazing people who are now friends. Instagram and Facebook have opened doors I didn’t even know were there.

Some of my favourite patterns and accessories have been inspired by fellow makers I have met through Instagram! Including The Ripple Effect Mandala Crochet Pattern.

I want to help Mums find their own creative oasis

Diving into this crafty world has helped me dream up some pretty big goals, like opening my own Yarn Shop and Cafe. A place for Mums to go to pick up their favourite yarns and sit with their WIP and a hot cup of coffee, while their children are entertained in the kids play area. What I would have given for a place like this close to home on those days where I just needed a little adult interaction and a little buffer from my kids.

Watch this space… this amazing Yarn Shop will one day become a reality. And you, my friend, are helping me get one step closer. Take a look around at my crochet pattern designs and ETSY shop and blog posts. Pick yourself up a little treat… it can be your self-care splurge for the week!
